TERRY’s Story

Terry McCarthy was born in New York City and grew up in Breezy Point, writing songs as he wandered the winter beach. After surviving both a Catholic and public school education, Terry attended SUNY Purchase College where he received a BFA in Theater Arts, all the while knowing his first love and passion was music.

Terry formed his first band, Color Code while living in Park Slope, Brooklyn. By the time he moved to Hoboken, NJ, the band had become The Chance and was performing in local New Jersey clubs as well as established venues in New York City.

The third and most popular incarnation of the band was The McCarthys. The name was chosen after Terry’s talented nephew joined the line-up. They played regularly in the East Village in NYC, and were picked by Garageband.com to compete in their “National Battle of the Bands”. They were finalists in New York City, performing twice at The Hard Rock Cafe. They were regulars at clubs like The Sidewalk Cafe and The C-Note.

Although Terry is certainly not averse to the band format, lately he’s decided to test the waters as a solo performer in an acoustic setting. This has given him an opportunity to explore a different rapport with audiences and new arrangements for his songs.

Terry’s writing style is multifaceted and can range from quiet ballads to full out rock tunes. His two self-produced recordings, “First Cd” and “Wait, A Second” are available on Apple Music and Spotify. Terry’s latest collection of 15 new songs is titled “The Charm” produced by Gerry Griffin and featuring a talented group of musicians.

Special thanks.
